Social media and activism have been integrated for a long time now, with the most famous example being the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag which was used for the very first time back in 2013. Hashtags and social media continue to play a vital part in mobilising all kinds of human rights, social justice and environmental movements. Messages like #LoveWins, #TimesUp and #FridaysForFuture have shown their power to unite millions of people behind their causes.

The world is full of wrongdoing, but there are so many people out there who want to make a positive difference. Social issues can make you feel overwhelmed because they are so vast and may feel impossible to tackle. But how do you get involved with social issues you care about outside of social media? If you’re not on social media, or if you feel you want to do more to help these causes in practice, you can often make the biggest difference by helping in real life.

  • Volunteer

Proactively contact groups you want to volunteer for by visiting their website and searching for their email address. Small organisations will often welcome you as their resources are thin and they can use additional volunteer help to fill in gaps.

  • Find like-minded people

As events are slowly starting to re-open, why not use them to meet other people who share your passion for social issues? The connections you can make and conversations you get to have can lead to a world of new discoveries.

  • Identify and use your skills

Make a list of things you’re good at that could add value to an organisation. You can really help movements or groups with your skills that you use professionally.

  • Host a fundraising event

Create a fun and interesting way to raise money to support your cause. Run a 10K and raise money by collecting sponsors, or host a clothing swap shop and charge an admission fee.

Floe focuses on Climate Change

Climate change is an issue that affects every single person on the planet, and is one of the most devastating problems that humanity has ever faced. Millions are already experiencing the consequences of climate change including extreme weather, frequent wildfires, severe storms and rainfall events.

That’s why Floe are determined to make a difference. We are proactive in making sure that our great oral care products are not only recyclable, but sustainable in their production. We subscribe to a circular model - with the goal of eliminating waste and the continual use of resources. All you have to do to help is send your used products back, so that they can be correctly recycled and turned into new products.

Our subscription box includes:
